Interview with Katarina Madunič, Marketing Officer of EFPSA

January 17, 2021 secretary 0 Comments

We have an open call for EFPSA’s Board 2021-2022 and you can find it here. Because we wanted to present more of each position and the work that it entails, we are presenting you a series of interviews done with the current members of The Board. If you want to know more about the position of Marketing Officer, you can contact Katarina at

Why did you decide to apply for this position?

Last mandate I became the MR of Slovenia. It was my first year at the university and EFPSA and everything was so fresh, new and very exciting. I felt honoured and really happy that I could be a part of such an amazing and international organisation. The Congress in Denmark made me really fall in love with EFPSA. For one week I have forgotten about everything else. And with each EFPSA event, I wanted to be even more involved in EFPSA. On the EBMR I talked with the past president and he has seen the potential in me. I started to think about applying for BM and I was thinking about how I could contribute the most and I realised that it would be through marketing as marketing is something that I find very interesting. If you are thinking about applying for BM, I want to let you know that if you are really motivated and if you are really interested in one position, you’re a great candidate.

How do you balance this commitment with your other responsibilities (work, studying, job, etc.)?

The balance was quite challenging for me. I am the kind of person who has many ideas and I get really excited about them. And when I am passionate about something, I dedicate a lot of time to it. But the problem in EFPSA is that there are always some deadlines, some amazing projects and if you are not careful you can start spending more time on it, then you can actually afford. One thing that I really had to learn is to say no to some of the tasks and learn how to take more time for myself. If you are thinking about applying for BM, I want you to know that it is really important that you also learn how to take time for yourself. But definitely, you have to be a very organised person.

What were your biggest challenges for you as a part of the board and in your position?

Definitely the balance between personal and professional life. At one point I was only waking up, working for university and EFPSA and then going back to sleep and the next day the same all over again. I literally had zero time for myself and people that I love and I was on a way to burn out. As I mentioned previously, I really had to learn to say no to some of the tasks and to write some of my ideas down and said to myself: “It is a great idea, but I don’t have to do it in this mandate. Maybe someone can do it in the future.”. Because of that, I gained my balance again. Being a member of the Board can be really challenging at times, but it is definitely an experience from which you can and will grow a lot.

What have you gained from this experience and what was the most rewarding part of it?

I learned a lot about myself and I have grown personally and professionally. I became a better leader, I learned a lot about marketing, my time management skills were good, but they became even better. I learned how to say no, which was a really hard thing for me to do. I became even more creative and I improved my communication skills. I feel like right now many university and everyday tasks seem much easier and I am done with them more efficiently and also my stress resistance has improved. I learned and grew from so many perspectives. It was challenging but totally worth it. But the most rewarding part is working and connecting with my amazing teammates. I am so grateful that I met these amazing people and I really hope that one day we will meet in person.

What would you say are the most important assets for becoming a Board member?

First of all, the most important thing is to be very interested in the position that you are applying for. Being motivated is super important, in some cases even more, then the knowledge and previous experiences, as you can learn anything you want if you are motivated enough. Motivation is the best recipe to have an amazing and fulfilling experience while growing and learning a lot at the same time. However, you have to also be a very dedicated, responsible and trustworthy individual with great time management skills. If you are thinking about applying for the Board and have any fears or questions, please feel free to contact us for more information.

What was the best moment of your mandate so far?
There were many very lovely moments, so I can’t choose my favourite one. I loved the first BMM when I have finally met with the lovely people that I have meetings every week. I am that kind of person that really loves to hang out with people in person, so seeing them during this weird time really meant a lot to me. Especially all the talks, laughs and hugs that we shared. I wish I had these moments also with my amazing marketing team and I really hope I will have a chance to enjoy time with them in person as well. However, even though online, I loved every meeting because I was able to be with these incredible individuals. One of my favourite moments was filming the example video for the EFPSA Day with my team. These moments actually meant a lot to me. I also very much enjoyed the social evening we had during online EBMR. There were so many beautiful moments. Lastly, I would like to thank all the amazing people that I connected with on a personal level and shared some amazing conversations with. And I am truly grateful also for the letters that I received. Thank you. <3
