The Annual EFPSA Congress
The annual EFPSA Congress is the biggest and most important of all EFPSA Events. It is a week-long event that gathers around 500 psychology students, academics, and researchers from across Europe. The Congress, which typically takes place between the months of April and May, is composed of a diverse scientific programme exploring a specific theme every year with contributions from students, researchers, experienced academics, and a social programme which provides participants with the opportunity of a rich, cultural, and intense social exchange. Thus, the EFPSA Congress is a unique opportunity for psychology students to broaden their scientific and personal horizons.
Additionally, the Congress is a very important event for the Federation as this event marks the start of the new mandate for the Working Community of EFPSA. The Executive Board and Board of Management members are elected at the EFPSA Congress, after which they immediately assume their duties and begin to develop their projects already during their week at the Congress.
Each year, the host country of the EFPSA Congress changes. There have been 34 Congresses to date, which have been organised in 24 different countries. The 35th EFPSA Congress is planned to take place from 20th to 24th of April 2021hosted virtually by The Netherlands Org Com.
What Happens During The Congress
Just as the host country of the Congress changes each year, so does its academic theme. Covering new fields of psychology each year, the content of the Congress is as varied as its participants’ origins. The Congress hosts lectures and workshops delivered by professionals and students from all over Europe. Participants can hear from experts discussing contemporary topics in psychological theory, research and practice as well as participate in practical workshops and a lively social programme.
All students are invited to contribute to the Congress and to receive feedback on their studies and research by presenting their own research poster. In these ways and many more, the Congress offers young psychologists the opportunity to add variety to their psychological endeavors. Additionally, the six Research Teams that started their research projects in the EFPSA Research Programme in the summer before, are invited by EFPSA to present the development and results of their research.
A social programme unlike any happens each day throughout the week. There is of course the traditional EFPSA Cultural Evening at which every participating member of the organisation presents itself to the Congress by sharing foods, drinks, and customs from their home nation. An excursion to a local city or region offers a break away from work and rounds off the Congress nicely as a truly unforgettable experience.
Moreover, the Congress is a very important event for the Federation as it holds three General Assemblies, where a new Board and a new Executive Board are elected, and representatives from EFPSA’s partner organisations are invited.
